UNLV Football Hosts Spring Showcase
By: Emmet Kenney
UNLV football gave the fans their first opportunity to take a look at the new team at Allegiant Stadium Saturday night. The spring showcase has usually been hosted at the UNLV practice facility on campus prior to the event on Saturday which saw about 4,000 fans make their way into the stadium to get a look at the new players. The showcase was a combination of practice drills and some scrimmage plays that showed the ones vs the ones and so on.
Tennessee transfer Harrison Bailey was the first quarterback on the roster that saw time with Doug Brumfield being the second-string quarterback after taking his name out of the transfer portal earlier in the week. Another transfer that stood out on Saturday was Ricky White III, who transferred from Michigan State earlier this spring season. White had some huge plays on Saturday during the scrimmage period as a receiver and in the kick return game as he took a kickoff back for a touchdown.
White could be that breakout offensive star that UNLV could be needing for this season with a team that needs to replace Chuck Williams on offense. White could help relieve the offenses running game that could possibly take a little bit to get going in the season. Bailey and White were also high school teammates and that chemistry could help make this Rebel offense special.
The Rebels open their season on September 3rd against the Idaho State Bengals at Allegiant Stadium.
