The Vegas Golden Knights failed to close out their opening round series against the Minnesota wild in a 4-2 loss in game 5. The Golden Knights looked like the much better team throughout the game putting up 40 shots on goal compared to the Wild’s 14. Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough for the Golden Knights to pull off the Victory. Mark Stone got the action started with a goal in the first after being sprung on a breakaway with a pass from Alex Tuch. The Wild quickly answered with Kirill Kiprizov’s first goal of the series 52 seconds later. Zack Parise and Jordan Greenway also contributed with goals in the first period to give the Wild a 3-1 lead at the first intermission.

The Wild outshot VGK in the first period 7-6, but the Knights continued their second period dominance in the series allowing one shot in the entire second frame. Alex Martinez drew the Knights closer with a slapshot from the right side on a power play. Cam Talbot finished the game with 38 saves on 40 chances, saving 1.63 goals above expected. Marc-Andre Fleury only faced 13 shots all game, but allowed 3 goals including the game winner from Jordan Greenway in the first. Up next, these two teams will head back to St. Paul, Minnesota for game 6 on Wednesday where the Golden Knights will be looking to close out the series. The winner of this series will advance to play the Colorado Avalanche in the next round.
